Truro’s defending two-time horse of the year American Risk showed no signs of rust on opening day for qualifiers at the Bible Hill half mile oval, going gate to wire in a sharp looking 158.3 qualifying effort.
In rein to driver Paul Langille, he took complete command from the outset, carving out 29.3, 100.3 and 130.2 fractions, before putting up a 28.1 final quarter to leave the rest of the field in his wake. Trained by George Rennison for the Risky Bizz Group of Truro, Nova Scotia, the 7-year-old son of American Ideal posted the fastest time of 7 qualifiers.
The second fastest of 7 qualifiers went to Er Quinn. The 11-year-old son of Total Truth went on a front-end mission from the outset with Driver Kirk Parris guiding him through fractions of 30.0, 100.4 and 131.1 before closing in 29.2 for a 200.2 score over Boo Yaya and Hardy Mill Joe. Trained by Chris Covin for Cc Stables of Middle Sackville, Nova Scotia, he was a reliable claimer at Truro last season, taking a mark of 156.2 on the season.

Qualifying resumes next Sunday, April 30th at noon, before opening day on Sunday, May 7th with a 1pm Atlantic post-time. New for Truro this season will be their introduction of the lowest Pick 5 takeout in the country at 12%, that will kick off Truro race cards this season.
