American Risk shines on first day of Qualifiers at Truro

Truro’s defending two-time horse of the year American Risk showed no signs of rust on opening day for qualifiers at the Bible Hill half mile oval, going gate to wire in a sharp looking 158.3 qualifying effort.

In rein to driver Paul Langille, he took complete command from the outset, carving out 29.3, 100.3 and 130.2 fractions, before putting up a 28.1 final quarter to leave the rest of the field in his wake. Trained by George Rennison for the Risky Bizz Group of Truro, Nova Scotia, the 7-year-old son of American Ideal posted the fastest time of 7 qualifiers.

The second fastest of 7 qualifiers went to Er Quinn. The 11-year-old son of Total Truth went on a front-end mission from the outset with Driver Kirk Parris guiding him through fractions of 30.0, 100.4 and 131.1 before closing in 29.2 for a 200.2 score over Boo Yaya and Hardy Mill Joe. Trained by Chris Covin for Cc Stables of Middle Sackville, Nova Scotia, he was a reliable claimer at Truro last season, taking a mark of 156.2 on the season.

Other qualifying winners were:

Saulsbrook Diva and Driver Carl Isenor, Mirimichi Walter and Paul Langille, The Midnight Train and Paul Treves, Crime Boss and Greg Munro and The Generals Pride and George Rennison.

Qualifying resumes next Sunday, April 30th at noon, before opening day on Sunday, May 7th with a 1pm Atlantic post-time. New for Truro this season will be their introduction of the lowest Pick 5 takeout in the country at 12%, that will kick off Truro race cards this season.
