The first ever edition of the Inglis Jewellers Diamond Classic debuts Sunday, October 29th at Truro Raceway, with a $50,000 two-year-old Atlantic sired pacing Fillies race. It will be the richest race contested in Nova Scotia this season.
Slots were sold for entry into the race earlier this season before two-year olds debuted on the racetrack. It is only the second race of its kind in Canada (The Mohawk Million being the other) and 8 slot holders paid $6000 apiece to have the opportunity to either race their own horse, or sell or broker a deal for someone else to enter their horse with their slot.
The slot owners who made the original purchases were:
- Done for the Day Stable
- Hardcore Racing
- Dr. Ian Moore
- Clare MacDonald
- Nikway Farms
- Mike Pollard
- Gene Smallman
- Peter Smith
In addition to the purse money that will go to the winner, they will also receive some fantastic perks as well. There will be a Diamond Necklace valued at $2500 presented to the winner courtesy of Inglis Jewellers, as well as an original 11” x 14” Race Portrait of their horse, valued at $800 courtesy of the Official Artist of the Inglis Jewellers Diamond Classic, famed harness artist Michelle Hogan.
